Budapest Set for LA28 Points Race at Hungary Grand Slam

The Hungary Grand Slam 2026 is one week away, with Budapest preparing to welcome a deep international field for a crucial stop on the World Judo Tour. The Papp László Budapest Sportaréna will host the event as athletes continue their push for qualification towards the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

According to the IJF, 563 judoka from 72 nations are expected in the Hungarian capital. The entry list is set to include 37 athletes ranked in the world’s top ten, creating a strong three-day test across the weight categories.

The stakes stretch beyond the medals. As an Olympic qualifying event, the Hungary Grand Slam offers valuable ranking points on the road to LA28. That raises the importance of every contest, from the opening Hajime to a decisive Ippon in the final block.

Budapest is no stranger to major judo events. The city has previously staged Grand Slams and world championships, building a reputation as a regular home for elite international competition. Organisers, referees, volunteers, partners and Hungarian authorities will again be part of delivering the event.
