Istanbul is about to become a major meeting point for junior judo. On 2–3 May 2026, the Junior European Cup will bring together many of Europe’s most promising young athletes for two intense days of competition.
With 502 judoka from 27 countries entered, the event looks set to deliver a packed and highly competitive programme. For Europe’s junior scene, this is more than just another stop on the calendar. It is a serious test of level, consistency and composure against international opposition.
Across both days, medals will be decided in the scheduled weight categories, with organisers expecting strong technical quality, sharp tactical awareness and real competitive edge. Junior events like this often reveal who is ready to take the next step, and that gives this tournament extra energy.
There is also clear importance for the host nation. Türkiye’s junior team will have the chance to face top European opposition on home tatami, gaining valuable experience in a demanding environment. At the same time, the event helps raise the international profile of Turkish judo and supports the sport’s continued development.
Europe’s junior circuit lands in Istanbul with depth, pressure and big opportunity.
The action will not end with the medal contests. From 4–6 May 2026, the Istanbul EJU Junior Training Camp will follow, giving athletes more time to work, adapt and improve while also strengthening cooperation between national teams.
Saturday’s programme features women’s -63 kg, -70 kg, -78 kg and +78 kg, alongside men’s -60 kg, -66 kg and -73 kg. On Sunday, the women compete in -48 kg, -52 kg and -57 kg, while the men take the mat in -81 kg, -90 kg, -100 kg and +100 kg.
Fans who want to follow the tournament can watch it live on JudoTV. For young European judoka, Istanbul is set to be an important stage.
