LA28 Opens Olympic Volunteer Applications as the Judo Community Gets Its Chance

LA28 has opened applications for its Games-Time Volunteer Programme, giving the global judo community a direct way to be part of the Olympic experience ahead of the Los Angeles 2028 Games. With two years to go until the Opening Ceremony, the call is now out for people ready to help shape one of sport’s biggest events from the inside.

The programme invites eligible applicants from around the world, not only from the United States. That point matters for judo fans, coaches, club members and supporters everywhere who may want to contribute to the Olympic and Paralympic Games in person.

According to the information shared by the International Judo Federation, volunteers are expected to play a major role across the event. They help welcome athletes and spectators, support competitions, assist with ceremonies and operations, and add to the atmosphere that makes every Olympic edition feel special.

For LA28, up to 60,000 volunteers are expected across a wide range of roles in Los Angeles and at Olympic competition venues around the United States. It is a huge operation, and one that depends on people behind the scenes just as much as those competing under the lights.

The IJF has encouraged the judo family to take this opportunity seriously. For many in the sport, this is not about stepping onto the tatami, but about contributing to the values around it: service, respect, community and the shared energy that surrounds elite competition.

The Olympic stage needs more than athletes to come alive.

There are a few basic conditions for anyone thinking about applying. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old at the time of application, must be proficient in English and must commit to a minimum of ten non-consecutive shifts during either the Olympic or Paralympic volunteer period.

Importantly, residency in the United States is not required. That keeps the door open to international applicants, including members of the worldwide judo network who want to experience the Games from a different angle.

The IJF also shared an application code for members of the judo community: RWKABFMT. However, that code is not required in order to apply, and it does not guarantee selection. Applications will still be assessed through the standard LA28 volunteer recruitment process.

For judo supporters, this is a rare way to be close to the Games.
